Founded by Darin Montgomery in 2017. Fin is a Seattle based furniture and product design/manufacturing studio.
In addition to our product line, we work with interior designers, architects, and individuals to design custom pieces for residential, hospitality, and retail interiors.
Fin owns and operates our own manufacturing facility which gives us control over materials, methods, employee compensation, as well as health and safety practices. Our workshop, located in the SODO neighborhood of Seattle, is clean and well equipped with natural light, good ventilation, and surrounded by a community of creatives. We believe in order to make a good product, it should be done in a comfortable space by people who love what they do.
By selling direct to our customers, we believe it provides better value and a more rewarding experience. When you purchase from Fin, you're not only supporting us, you're supporting a community of small businesses and most importantly, the people who work there.
We price our products fairly but charge enough to support our staff, purchase high quality materials from reliable sources, and maintain a healthy business that has never relied on capital investments.
Our furniture is built using domestic hardwoods, premium hardware, and finished with plant based oil/wax or zero VOC water based finishes.
Because of the inherent nature of solid wood, the color will change with time and the material will expand and contract depending on humidity and temperature fluctuation. The expansion and contraction may result in some warping of the wood. Avoiding or reducing extremes in humidity and temperature fluctuation will minimize the effects. Many examples of centuries old solid wood furniture are still in use and have had varying degrees of care.
We believe with a few simple precautions, our pieces will be around for generations.
-
Clean using a damp soft cloth turning it frequently and rinsing if there is a large build up of particles.
-
A mild soap can be used to remove tough grime.
-
Avoid furniture polish, harsh cleaners, and abrasives.
-
Avoid window cleaners.
-
Avoid placing furniture near a heat source and keep out of areas of prolonged direct sunlight.
-
Use a coaster to avoid rings from glasses and keep solvent based materials like nail polish remover, rubbing alcohol, and perfume from coming in contact with the finish.
